How to clean your smart home in spring?
It's that time of year when we're all encouraged to clean our homes and prepare for the warmer months ahead. And after another winter in which our homes became offices, schools, gyms and restaurants, they're likely to need even more serious cleaning than normal.
But it's not just carpets and curtains that need cleaning. It's a good idea to refresh your smart home technology at least once a year. The good news is that it won't take long. Follow our step-by-step guide and keep your gear in top condition.
Change schedules for your smart lights and smart thermostat
As the days start to get longer and warmer, it makes sense to review the schedules for your smart heating and lighting so that they only come on when you need them.
Change important passwords
Then change important passwords, such as for the smart home app and Wi-Fi. It doesn't take much time and is a great way to keep your technology secure.
To update your Wi-Fi password, you'll need to open the router's configuration page and log in using your current credentials. From here, look for the wireless settings menu. Open this and you will find an option to update your password.
Don't forget to update the rest of your technology as well.
Update your firmware
Check the settings section of the smart home app to see if any updates are available. This is a great way to get new features and improve existing ones. But most importantly, it helps correct any errors that you may not even be aware of.
And while you're at it, check your smartphone for updates too. Since most smart home technology can be controlled from your mobile phone, it's really important to keep that up to date as well.
Clean up your smart home control center and security cameras
Of course, it wouldn't be spring cleaning without dust stains.
To get perfect shots, use a microfiber cloth to clean the lens.
Then clean your hub and smart home thermostat.
Finally, don't neglect your smart speaker. Sitting in the middle of the kitchen or in the hallway, this is usually a pretty defenseless place against everyday dirt. But they are also surprisingly difficult to clean. We recommend you use a dry cloth and blow dryer to keep it looking like new.
