The Ultrastar DC HC310 is a small capacity hard drive that helps meet the economic and access requirements of many traditional IT workloads. Small capacity drives also help address architecture limitations. Part of the mid-capacity DC HC300 series, the Ultrastar DC HC310 is designed for traditional data storage and server applications as well as distributed and scalable computing, including block and file storage architectures, delivering fast 7,200 rpm performance and a lower cost of acquisition to help ease budget constraints. The Ultrastar DC HC310 comes with a SAS interface.

  • Innovations in technology deliver efficiency and productivity for traditional and legacy systems
    The Ultrastar DC HC310 is based on a 4-disk airframe design that uses conventional magnetic recording (CMR) technology in a 3.5-inch large form factor. Compared to the previous generation, the Ultrastar 7K6000, the DC HC310 provides a 12% increase in performance and uses media with a slightly larger diameter. It features a second-generation two-stage micro-drive that increases head positioning accuracy for better device performance. The increase in recording performance is also supported by Western Digital's media cache architecture, a disk-based caching technology that provides a large disk cache area, which also improves reliability and data integrity in the event of unexpected power loss. Finally, the addition of flash-based non-volatile cache (NVC) on both SATA and SAS models helps improve write performance. The Ultrastar DC HC310 also includes the Rebuild Assist feature, which helps dramatically reduce RAID rebuild time and maintain system performance during the rebuild process.
