The purpose of the DGS-1008P PoE Gigabit Desktop switch is to provide a cost-effective way for SOHOs and SMBs to take advantage of Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology, allowing users to power devices such as wireless access points, network cameras or IP phones directly from the network cables. The DGS-1008P is equipped with gigabit ports for higher speeds and integrates D-Link's Green Ethernet technology to save power when the switch is not in use. Its fanless design makes it completely silent, so it's perfect for offices, libraries or meeting rooms. The first four ports of the DGS-1008P support the IEEE 802.3af PoE standard. Each of these four ports can deliver up to 15.4W, making it a very convenient solution for applications that are remote from electrical outlets, or when the clutter of additional power supplies needs to be minimized. The switch will automatically determine the power that the connected PoE device needs, so no configuration is required. A protection mechanism will cut the power in case of unexpected PoE overload, thus protecting both the switch and the connected device. Every time the DGS-1008P is powered on, it runs a microdiagnostic procedure to check the integrity of the connected Ethernet cables. If a fault is detected, the switch will flag it using the LEDs on the front panel, making it easier for the user to troubleshoot wiring problems. Although it is an unmanaged Plug and Play switch, the DGS-1008P can classify network traffic by evaluating the existing 802.1p and DSCP fields in Ethernet frames and IP packets, respectively, and forward them from its ports according to their priority. This enables seamless integration of video, voice and data traffic without delay or loss of quality. The DGS-1008P is part of D-Link Green, D-Link's green technology, providing energy savings, reduced power consumption and longer product life without sacrificing operational performance or functionality. This switch implements Green Ethernet technology, which can save a significant amount of energy by detecting the length of the connected cables, adjusting the power accordingly; and the state of the ports by placing them in a low-power standby mode when no network traffic is detected. Thanks to these reductions in power consumption, D-Link was able to eliminate the fans in the design of the DGS-1008P, making it completely silent and significantly increasing its lifespan. |

8-port desktop switch with 4 Power over Ethernet (PoE) ports
The 8-port DES-1008P switch can transmit power to up to four network devices via common network cables using Power over Ethernet technology. This provides a cost-effective entry-level solution for users who want to get the most out of their network. The DES-1008P allows users to easily connect and power devices such as wireless access points (APs), IP cameras and IP phones through common network cables.

IEEE 802.3af Power over Ethernet (PoE)
Four of the DES-1008P's eight ports support the IEEE 802.3af Power over Ethernet (PoE) standard. Each of these ports can provide up to 15.4W, for a total PoE budget of 56W, allowing users to connect IEEE 802.3af compliant devices without the need for an additional power source. Network devices that receive power in this way do not need to be placed in close proximity to an electrical outlet, allowing greater flexibility in their placement. IEEE 802.3af compliance also means that when a compatible device is connected, the switch automatically adjusts the power supplied to it.

Higher productivity
The switch is completely unmanaged, so no configuration is required and installation is quick and easy. Auto-MDI/MDI-X support on all ports eliminates the need for crossover cables to connect to another switch or hub. Auto-negotiation on each port detects the connection speed of the network device and intelligently adjusts for compatibility and optimal performance. The DES-1008P also features diagnostic LEDs that show status and activity, allowing you to quickly find and troubleshoot network problems. Thanks to wire-rate filtering and store-and-forward switching, the DES-1008P also maximizes network performance by minimizing the transmission of bad network packets. Combining the convenience of PoE, superior performance and ease of use, the D-Link DES-1008P is the perfect choice for adding PoE devices to a home or small business network.
